The ART IN THE EASTSIDE Project 2013 was a unique exhibition of 50 billboards and poster sites throughout East Belfast, Northern Ireland. Each billboard displayed an original artwork, created by artists who were either commissioned and invited or selected through an open international competition.
An ART FLAG BUNTING project ran in conjunction which included an outreach Schools and Community Group programme and a number of artworks created by local schools and community groups were selected and included in the Outdoor Exhibition.
The Art in the Eastside 2013 project ran from the 26th August – 8th September 2013.
Its key elements included:
50 billboards and poster sites – exhibited in locations throughout East Belfast and public transport areas.
Artist’s Open Submission – UK, nationwide open submission competition for local, national and international artists to participate in.
Public Callout – a public call was made for non-professional artists with an affiliation to the East Belfast area to submit an image for consideration.
‘Art Flag Bunting’ Project – outreach work with schools and community groups in East Belfast, to producing outdoor installations on schools and community buildings.
Arts Trail Map – a high quality, user friendly map was produced to form an arts trail enabling locals and visitors to easily identify the artists involved and the location of the artwork displayed.
Dedicated Walking Tour – a walking tour of the artworks taking in the ‘Art in the Eastside’ billboards and the ‘Art Flag Bunting’ installations
Public Arts Talks – a series of artist’s talks were delivered to the public with information about the artwork exhibited and the artists involved in the Project.
East Belfast Arts Festival 2013– the project was the key visual arts project during the
2nd East Belfast Arts Festival 2013.
