Practice – Lesley Cherry’s practice draws on issues raised through domestic settings, nostalgia, memory, language and class. She is currently developing these elements through video, installation and mixed media, exploring the tension and hypocrisy of nostalgia and memory, juxtaposed with the reality of a situation remembered. There is a humour to her work, which often masks the more serious issues being addressed, entwined with elements of performance and drama. Cherry is also an experienced socially engaged artist – work which influences and informs her practice.
Biography – Based in Belfast, Cherry studied at the University of Ulster, gaining her BA Hons in Fine & Applied Art and graduated from the Master of Fine Art course in 2011. She was awarded the Artists Enhancement Award (ACES) from the Arts Council of Northern Ireland (ACNI), 2013/14, the ACNI ARCH Development Residency in Washington DC, 2012 and the Erno Tolvaly Residency in Hungary, 2014. She has also received ACNI Support for the Individual Artists Awards in 2005, 2008, 2012, 2013 and 2016.

This work has led to several large scale public art commissions and also informs and influences her own practice.
